How to Reset Windows 7 Administrator Password

Hello folks, we know that forgot a password of any login account might be a bigger problem. Without logged in you cannot access your account. Sometimes really it is a crucial problem for us when we are not able to access our login account. Forgot your Windows 7 administrator password might also restrict you from accessing your computer. Without logged in you cannot access your important data that are saved in your computer. Sometimes if you cannot access your computer through login then you will have to format your windows. This will not a solution to format your computer because it can also be a cause of losing your important data. Today I’m here with a new trick in which I will show you how you can Reset Windows 7 Administrator Password without any software or recovery tools. Just follow the given steps below –

Forgot password

We can reset windows 7 administrator password by recoveries software. For this you will have to download it then burn it on a CD/DVD or in a flash drive. Then you will have to boot from that inserted disk or flash drive.

But today I’m here with a simple and easy trick to reset windows 7 administrator password without any software or recovery disk. You will not need to download any recovery software. So just follow my steps here –

Step 1 : Shut Down Your Computer Forcely By Pressing Power Button

 

  • Shut down your computer forcely by pressing power button and then restart it.
  • When you start your computer the following windows screen will be appear.

Step 2 : Open Your System In Safe Mode With Command Prompt

 

  • By pressing arrow up and down key from your keyboard you can scroll up and down these options in the above image.
  • Now select the safe mode with command prompt option by pressing arrow key and enter.
  • You will show the following windows screen Loading Windows Files

  • During Loading Windows Files again shut down your computer before windows started in a safe mode.

Step 3 : Launch Startup Repair

 

  • Now again start your computer and you will get the following windows screen

  • Now using arrow key select the Launch Startup Repair and press enter.

 

Step 4 : Windows is Searching For Problems

  • Once you entered in launch startup repair the following windows screen will shown you.
  • Here Windows is searching for your problems.
  • It will take few minutes so be patience till it complete the searching.

Step 5 : Do You Want to Restore Your Computer using System Restore?

  • After few minutes of searching the startup problem you will show the option is given below. Do you want to restore your computer using System Restore?
  • Do not restore it just cancel it by clicking on Cancel Button

  • Once you cancelled the restore option it will again take few minutes by searching.

Step 6 : Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically

 

  • After finished the searching problems the following windows screen will appear

  • Click on the combo box of View problem details and you will show the option given below.
  • Scroll down at end in the box and click on the link X:\windows\system\32\en-US\erofflps.txt

  • Once you click on this link a notepad window will appear like this

  • Now go to File and click Open

Step 7 : Open My Computer And Do the Following

 

  • After clicking Open the Desktop window will shown you

  • Now go to Computer

  • Go to Local Disk (D:)

  • Go to Windows Folder

  • Inside Windows folder scroll down and open System32 folder.

  • Select Files of type as All Files as shown below and scroll down.

  • Now right click on sethc and rename it as sethc1 (or anything else that you  will remind)

  • Now find the cmd.exe file in the same folder. This is your Command Prompt. Copy and Paste it in same folder.
  • Now rename the cmd-copy file to sethc.exe.

  • Then close out of all the dialog boxes and Finish, so that the computer restarts.

Step 8 : Restart Your Computer When It Finish

 

  • Once you get to the Windows login screen, hit the Shift key 5 times and it will open the Command Prompt window instead of the Sticky Keys application.
  • Show the below windows screen

Step 9 : Now Reset the Password

 

  • To reset your login password – just type the following command,
  • Type : net user

  • It will show you all the Users that are already created in your system.

  • Now type : net user USER_NAME * to select the admin user which one you want to reset the password(In my case it is : net user UMESH *)

  • Now press enter you will show the option
    • Type a password for the user
  • Now type your new password (password will not appear here but still it will created)
    • Retype the password to confirm.
  • You will show password has been changed successfully.

Reset password

 

  • Now login with your New password.

Bingo ! You have successfully changed the Administrator Password
